Aorere College’s Health Expo 2018

“Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”

On the 25th May 2018 Michael and Eliza – two members of our RPE team had a stall at Aorere College’s Health Expo titled ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’. The event was run by the Aorere PSSP team (Peer Sexuality Support Programme) along with the senior health classes. The event was funded by Ara Taiohi as part of the youth health week ‘be who you want to be’ and was created by these student lead teams to not only educate students and staff, but to also open their eyes to real ongoing issues and to give them a safe space to discuss them.

There were many interactive and educative stalls set up in the school hall including PSSP – ‘somewhere over the rainbow’, gender discrimination, healthy relationships, self-confidence, bullying, cyber bullying and safety, and obesity. Michael and Eliza had a Bodysafe stall set up with information about consent, healthy relationships, and help-seeking.

The whole event was received well by everyone who attended, and Aorere College are thinking about running a Health Expo every year. Our stall received positive feedback and both Michael and Eliza had a great time chatting with the awesome young people at Aorere College and their whanau.

We would be happy to come back anytime!
